  Chapter 3

    I usually spent Sundays with my mum and today was no different. We were planning on staying home to watch TV and bake cookies. So that was my Sunday for this week, but while I was watching TV with mum, the phone rang. I assumed it was going to be Amber since she usually called me at that time, but how wrong I was¡K
    ¡§Hello?¡¨
    ¡§Hey, Elise?¡¨
    ¡§Yeah, who¡¦s this?¡¨
    ¡§It¡¦s me Shane.¡¨
    ¡§Oh.¡¨
    ¡§I was wondering if you¡¦d like to go to a movie or something with me tonight?¡¨ he asked. ¡§That is if you¡¦re not busy.¡¨
    ¡§Uhh¡Ktonight?...¡¨
    ¡§You don¡¦t have to if you don¡¦t want to.¡¨
    I took a minute or two to answer him because I didn¡¦t want to say no in case he thought I didn¡¦t want to and he probably won¡¦t ask me again, this was a chance not to be missed¡Kbut¡KI couldn¡¦t say yes because I¡¦m suppose to be having a mother-and-daughter day. Why do guys always have to make things so complicated for us girls?
    ¡§Okay then,¡¨ I said, making my final decision.
      ¡§So I¡¦ll pick you up at eight?¡¨ he asked.
    ¡§Yeah, I¡¦ll be ready by then.¡¨
    ¡§Bye.¡¨

  
  

    I hung up the phone with a huge smile on my face and told mum that there was a change of plans. She was quite disappointed, I could see it on her face, and it really hurt me to see her that way, as if she was not suffering enough. You see, like I said, Sunday was the only day that I could spend with my mum, because she worked a night shift at the local hospital six days a week as a nurse, so Sunday was the only work-free day she had and since I can¡¦t see her in the mornings from Monday to Saturday because of school, we spent Sundays together. But my mum was a good sport and although I could see disappointment on her face, she said I could go if I wanted to.
    So with that, I went upstairs to my room to get ready. I decided that I would wear the lilac dress my mum got me for Christmas the year before. I made my long brown hair curly, and then did my make-up, and before I knew it I heard a car pull up the driveway and then I heard the doorbell ring. My mum got the door and I quickly went downstairs.
  ¡§Oh! You must be Shane,¡¨ said mum.
  ¡§Yes. It¡¦s nice to meet you, Mrs. Woods.¡¨
  ¡§Hi, Shane,¡¨ I said.
  ¡§Hey! Elise, you look beautiful,¡¨ he said. ¡§Are you ready to go?¡¨
  ¡§Yeah. Bye mum,¡¨ I said and kissed her on the cheek.
  ¡§Bye, Mrs. Woods.¡¨
  ¡§Have fun you guys!¡¨ she said as she watched us go before she closed the door.
    The drive to the cinema took ten minutes and we were talking non-stop all the way. I also finally got to ask him how he got the scar on his neck, and he told me that his dad was drunk one night and got into a rage and slit him without knowing on the neck with a knife. His dad was arrested and was also ordered to stay away from him and Shane later found out that he had moved out of the country and got married again and had three kids with his new wife. He also told me why his dad was drunk every night, it was because his dad found Shane¡¦s mum with another man at the local bar, and he got so angry that he slapped Shane¡¦s mum and tried to kill the man she was having an affair with. Shane¡¦s mum filed for divorce the next day and police also arrested his dad for his violent act and he had to spend ten weeks in jail. At first, Shane chose to stay behind with his dad but he wished he didn¡¦t, because the drinking and torture started after he was released and Shane was the one looking after the both of them. He had to work part-time jobs to support him and his dad and he also had to miss a year of school. But Shane was now living with his mum and his step-dad, and he didn¡¦t really care anymore about his biological dad because he never appreciated anything that Shane did and he was never there for the family, that was how the affair his mum had started. I asked him if there was anything he¡¦d like to change in his past and he said, ¡§Nothing at all. I mean, I love my step-dad. He¡¦s been there for me unlike my dad, so there is nothing that I¡¦d want to change.¡¨
    The cinema was jam-packed with teenagers mostly from our school. But I was quite relieved not to have seen Tina and Amanda. I mean if they were there, they would surely think that Shane and I were having a date together, which it was not. And they¡¦d really tease me because I¡¦ve not been out on a date since my last boyfriend, Jay. I really fell in love with him but things didn¡¦t work out the way we wanted it to so we ended the relationship. I haven¡¦t gotten over him, I mean you never really get over your first love no matter how hard you try, do you? He was even the first guy I cried for, but looking back I guess I was kind of stupid because he never really cared. He¡¦s got another girlfriend now, but a part of me will always love him. My perspective on love is that it is easy to fall in it but hard to fall out. 
    The movie was really good. It was a horror movie and it was really scary. After the movie we went to the town¡¦s deli and got something to eat. We were talking all this time. He was a really good listener and I told him about Jay and how I never got to know my dad. He also told me that he had two other step twin sisters who were retarded and he also told me about his band and how they were trying to get a record label to sign them up. I guess you could say that we became really good friends.
    We finally got home and I thanked him for the wonderful evening, then something happened that would change my life¡K
    ¡§Will you be my girlfriend?¡¨ blushing as he asked.
    It took me a few minutes to take it all in, mainly because my heart was beating so fast. Then it happened¡K
    ¡§Yeah, I will,¡¨ I said, my body was trembling all over but the words came out. Then he smiled and leaned forward and kissed me on my lips and said goodnight. I smiled back, opened the car door, walked into my house, went up my room, laid on my bed and smiled myself to sleep. I WAS SO HAPPY!!!

  Well~ nothing really happened 2day, just stayed home , and went out around 3 in the afternoon...ummm that's about 2day.

  
  

  There are 4 words that i wanna say, these 4 words are my favourite word in Chinese, i didnt just learn them 2day , but i wanna say it today these words are: °í«ù¨ì©³, hehe... if you guys understand.... it means never give up
